Aphrodite

Aphrodite USA219 was built by Kelvin Savell of San Diego for Lowell North for the purpose of racing her in the 1964 Olympics, Tokyo, Japan where Lowell won the Bronze medal. She was sold to Bob Mosbacher of the Texas Corinthian YC, Houston TX in 1965.  In 1967 Aphrodite, helmed by Mosbacher, placed 2nd in the Dragon Worlds in Toronto, Canada and in 1969 they won the Dragon Worlds in Palma, Spain in a field of 38 other Dragons. Following the Worlds Bob Mosbacher sold Aphrodite in Spain. She was renamed Pandereta (Tambourine) and given the sail number ESP25. In 2000 she sold again and, being in ”very bad condition”, the new owner undertook a complete restoration. During the restoration, the original US219 sail number was found carved into the keelson. She now races in Palma, Spain once more as Aphrodite USA219.
